Well, after a rainfall anyway.

Today I had a call from the hospital, would or could I work tomorrow? Oh and Saturday too! I said I would go tomorrow but not Saturday.
I think this will be my last shift. Mind you, I keep saying that.
I am like everyone getting older and the longer I am away from the hospital the harder it is to get back into the routine.
All the patients will be unknown to me, I find it sad that I can't get a proper rapport going.
Ahhh well.
Please wish me well. lol
:<((

I think I am nearly at the end of my career.
I suppose I could get another year out of it.
Not sure though.

It's been a mixed bag of stuff in my nursing life. I have had good times and not so good times. Suppose that is the same with every job.
I have seen a heck of a lot of change. I have tried to keep up with the ever changing titles of my bosses. Once, I knew who was who, now I don't. So many people doing so many "different" named jobs. Not just on the nursing side either.

I have met nurses who are good workers and nurses who are not.

I remember the Ward Sister telling me that she had told her she had upset me.
Not quite right as I have to respect someone for them to upset me. So, if it is the same old trout, she must earn a wage for upsetting nurses.
If she worked or stopped a ward and followed the nurses around, well she might understand a little more.
I suppose it's like me being in a science lab, I wouldn't know what I was talking about would I? Well you will have to trust me on that one but I know I wouldn't.

Now our ward is an easy going place. It's supposed to be rehabilitaion but isn't. Patients shouting and crying out. Asking the same questions over and over. Well, we cope really well with all this.

Tonight a Big Wig appeared on the ward. One lady pressed the buzzer 4 times in 4 minutes. So the Big Wig said.
So Big Wig spent ages talking to Staff Nurse, so Staff Nurse couldn't get on with giving the medications out. Now, if your relative was in pain and the painkillers didn't arrive on time, what would you think?

Anyway, Big Wig went off after upsetting the staff. Not me as I couldn't care if I never went back. I am on my 3rd retirement as you may know.

Has she nothing else to do with her Sunday evenings? Sad woman.
The old shark.

A gentleman patient asked me today if his wife was in the kitchen. I could honestly say no as there was no one in the ward kitchen. Then I asked nurse in charge if his wife visits?
No, she doesn't, she died in January.

Some nurses, like I did, gloss it over, I did it because I didn't know. Then nurse in charge told him, kindly but with complete honesty that his wife had died a while ago.
He became tearful then seemed to accept it.

I am going to work again on Sunday, if the gentleman is still on the ward, what's the betting the poor soul asks about his wife again?
Before my holidays and a very elderly lady asked the nurse in charge to ring her mother and father. No way.
I think it is so sad!

But once, we had a lady in her late seventies, her dad rang the ward to see how she was doing. Of course, the nurse who took the phone call was taken aback. But it was true.
So one must not assume must one?

I have been reading about patients not getting enough to eat in hospitals.
Ok.
Now, all I know about is the one I work at, (part time.) There is nothing wrong with the sizes of the meals.

You could choose from, small, medium or large.
Lunch is a three course meal and so is what we call supper.
I work with elderly patients. Now, my memory isn't good. I am first to admit it.
So, tomorrow (Monday) a nurse will go through the menu with the patient. (Unless the patient can do it themselves.) They will be asked what they would like for lunch on Wednesday. So say, tomato soup, Lancashire hotpot and rice pudding for afters. They will choose for supper too.

Ok.
Later that day.
Supper time, 5pm. Soup, sandwich and Plum Fool arrive. "But I didn't order that" they say, "I ordered Hotpot." Might even remember what they ordered for Tuesday. But it is different to what they ordered Saturday for tomorrow!
Hope you are keeping up with this. lol Of course, not all patients have a memory like me, but there are a few!

Please tell me too, how on earth can you make a patient eat when they don't want to??? It is sad for a nurse to see someone not eating. It's worse if they don't eat for a few days. All the encouraging, coaxing and such in the world won't make them eat if they don't want to do so.
Visitors bring things in and even they are left untouched.

It's so sad.

I went to work yesterday. It wasn't a bad shift really, have had worse.
But why??? Why do people think we are allowed to break the rules?
If someone has decided that we cannot put food, brought in by visitors, in the microwave, (and it wasn't the nurses.) should we get into an argument about it.
Not allowed so end of story.

Tomorrow it will be 14 days without a cig, that's two weeks, that's a fortnight.
It has not been easy and it still is a battle.
I tend to think about cigarettes a lot. I still do, wish I could stop it. I suppose it's not as bad as it was..... really.

Himdownstairs has not been hit with a blunt instrument. Not yet anyway. Must say my mood has been ok. Possibly because of all the practise I have had!
I remember I started stopping on October 21st. Lapsed, started stopping again as a New Year Resolution and lapsed a few times since.

Well, I knew it wouldn't last. Have not been to work for about two weeks. Staffing levels good. Weather ok so I wsn't bothered at all.
Today, I have been asked to work Saturday and Sunday. It will kill me. lol I mean, I have been a lady of leisure for ages now!
They say that the next two days are going to be the hottest yet. Typical. I could have said no thanx, but what the heck? It maybe really, redhot in the south of England but maybe not as hot in the northwest.

On Tuesday, I start on Zyban for the stop smoking thing. I really hope this works, I think it will. Need a bit of willpower as usual.

Have lovely weekend. Please don't spare me a thought while I am working away. I know I won't be the only one in the world who will be working but it could feel like that.
Sorry to J. for taking the mick out of her, (she is working all weekend too.) Wouldn't have done that if I had known what I know now. So it's my own fault innit?

I wrote on here earlier today. I am now working tomorrow. The weather will be nice again! Bah.

:<( :<( ;<)

Good luck to J. on her job interview tomorrow.

PS. Have done day one now.
Wish the days after this would be as easy. But it won't be long before I am craving a cig. But this time, I will just have to crave. It will pass one day, the craving.

Sounds like I work in a mill doesn't it? Work and looms.

No, just the good old hospital!
I start at 2:30pm today and escape at 9pm. Two shifts next week then that could be it for a while.
The nurses are all back off sick, none of them are on holiday. That means they don't need bank staff. I haven't had a week off since Christmas and New Year so am looking forward to it.

Day 11 on the non smoking thing has more or less, started. You may be getting bored with this. But so am I.
Not bored really I suppose. Just want to forget I would like a cig.
The day that happens, you will know. I won't mention it! lol

Read in a paper this morning that they are going to paint double yellow lines down the M6.
Huh. They can't fool me. Noticed the spokesperson was called April Loof. Hee hee.
Have a smashing Sunday.
