My songs.

My songs, not mine really but the ones I love. Country 'n ' Western. The thought of them are enough to send my heavy metal son and ex punk son into deep depression. lol I don't know why, I like some of their songs.
My lovely granddaughter thinks of Elvis as fat with big hair. Now I know different. Cor, he was lovely.
Saw Marty Wilde last weekend. He still sings well and looks quite young too. He will be older than me.
I just looked and great apologies Marty, but the site I looked at, has you about 68 years old.
Remember anyone, Billy Fury, I bet you do but from the same kind of singers, there were, Johnny Gentle, Dickie Pride and I am sure there were more than that. (Memory going.)
I fancy a ciggie. Not going to though, nearly 3 weeks without. I always thought if you got through the first week or so, you had the habit cracked. Ahhh well, one day. I must admit though it is getting better.

My CDs.
![]()
I remember the old records, they were big and black and broke easily! They were the 78s.
Then, horror, my friend threw one of those new fangled 48 rpm records across the room. It was an Elvis one. Much to our relief, it didn't break! The start of vinyl?
Bought quite a few of those in my time.
Also LPs. (Long Play.) There were EPs too, (Extended Play.)
I only bought one of them. They had two songs on each side. Mine was a Marty Wilde one.
I got a reel to reel tape recorder as a present. Big reels and you could record songs and stuff on them.
Then, quite a bit later, came cassettes. I have a drawer full of them.
Then along came CDs. Now you can download music onto MP3 players. Some small machines take over a thousand songs.
When I was in my teens, it was lucky if the songs lasted more than about three minutes.
I admit, I thought Queen singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" I thought it was 3 songs as it was so long.
Whatever next????

Gene Watson, Vern Gosdin, etc.
I like Gene Watson, Vern Gosdin, Jamie O'Hara, Bill Anderson, John Conlee and many others!
Strange, have always liked the C&W music.
I do like other music too.
I am fond of all sorts of stuff. Classical sometimes and R&R. I am a child of the '60's so remember a lot of the songs from that era.
My boys introduced me to Punk and Heavy Metal. So like some of those too. Not got into "granddaughter" type songs quite yet.
Soon it will be Christmas Carols. I like the traditional ones that I can sing along with!
Then, up will pop Slade, Shakin' Stevens and the other Christmas songs.
If music be the food of love, play on.
Who said that????

Cold Monday! Beatles.
It's been quite a cold day, rained a bit too. Nothing unusual at this time of the year. Don't know why I mention it really.
No work. All the nurses must be fit and well. Good.
While I was washing up, I unearthed a cassette tape. Goodness me, I must have recorded it years ago. Possibly from one of our LPs. (I refuse to part with our LPs.) Anyway, it was the early Beatles stuff. "Love Love Me Do" and others. Not listened to it for years.
Apparently, and I may have bragged about this before, I saw the Beatles at the Floral Hall in Morecambe. Must have been before they were famous though. Surely I would have remembered them? The same with The Rolling Stones.
How annoying. Would have been good to remember seeing them.
Ahh well, it was a long time ago. Memories. Well, lack of memories I suppose.

Country 'n' Western.
I am listening to my fave songs as I write this. I quite like all music but to the horror of my kids, I love country music. In fact, years ago, eldest son bought me a double LP for Christmas. (LP, that dates me doesn't it?) I think he said it was the most embarrassing thing he had done! But who was it that sent me to buy the LP P***** and Proud? His brother sent me for Never Mind the B******* by the Sex Pistols. There was another one I offered to get as well. Forget which son and which LP now.
Listening to Eminem, those sound a bit tame now. Don't get me wrong, I quite like Eminem. Granddaughter introduced me to his songs. She doesn't like Elvis though. Neither did her dad but one day he admitted that he had bought an Elvis CD.
Apparently, it was me that put them off Elvis and C & W. I get the blame for everything. Most unfair.
By the way, I am trying to cut down on the ciggies again. It's hard work!

Songs today!
I remember my dad moaning about our favourite songs. He said he couldn't tell what the words were. He was back with Bing Crosby and such songs.
Now I am older I know what he meant. That means I am uncool, square, gay or whatever the current word is.
Songs and music change with the times. Once I could tell you every song in the top twenty. Now, I have never heard of some of the bands, groups or singers.
Looking back is good. I think your favourite era is the time when you are in your teens. The song that reminds you of a boyfriend or if you are a boy, a girlfriend.
America had all the top singers, we lagged behind. Sometimes, there would be two of the same songs by different singers in the top ten. One American and one English. Honest.
Of course, in the 60's, England took over. Beatles and the Rolling Stones etc.
I used to go to the Floral Hall and apparently, before they hit the big time, Both of the bands I mentioned appeared there. Don't remember them. I do, however, remember hearing Gerry and the Pacemakers singing "Ferry Across the Mersey" for the first time. That was on the Central Pier. Sadly, neither places exist any more.
My musical education was helped by my boys. Heavy Metal and Punk. Now I listen to Eminem, my granddaughter's favourite singer and other singers of today. The Sex Pistols sound quite tame now to some of the songs I have heard since our granddaughter has grown older.
Yes, I have lived through the Inkspots, Elvis, Buddy, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bay City Rollers, Abba, ZZ Top Sex Pistols. I wonder if you will have the same sort of memories at my age?
So, in about 40 - 50 years time, remember, your favourite songs and groups may not have appealed to your parents and then it will be payback time. Your grandchildren will get their own back on your parents behalf. lol

Anyone know this song?
The year is 1965. Maybe in the months of February or March, I forget now. I was only 20-21.
On the radio a song was played very often. I can't even remember what station it was on either. It was maybe the BBC or Caroline, anyway, whatever, I loved it! I had it taped on my reel to reel tape recorder. (You older ones will remember them.)
THEN came the awful day that sister recorded over it! Since then, I have tried and tried to find that song again.
Please, can someone help me???
The only problem is, I only know, maybe the last line of the song. And that might not be right! Woe is me.
One hint is that it didn't seem to get in the top 100 songs of the time. I think it could have been sung by a group. A bit folksie I would say.
Armed with all that information, here goes...............
One line and as I said, maybe the last line or part of the chorus was, "You're my Green Island" or maybe Ireland.
I love you all!
Anyone that can tell me what it is will receive 2 pence.
